(chorus)I see everything that is happening to me, but I know there are places we can go where it doesn’t matter anymore, and we can go out wandering, where it doesn’t matter at all; we can sing and talk about anything… …but the night is unyielding, and the dawn won’t come. I’m useless on my own, and worse with anyone (chorus) …but truth is far away, and hope is out of reach, no matter what they say, you gotta practice what you preach I see everything that is happening to me.

I got the birdshit blues, I trod in dog poo, there’s toilet paper stuck to my shoe, and I’m missing you, I got the… I got the… I got the birdshit blues and I’m missing you. I got smoke in my eye, I think I’m gonna die, because I’m missing you, I’ve got the birdshit blues. My primark bag is split, my fucking head I hit, I’m feeling like shit, I think you’re really fit, I got the… I got the… I got the birdshit blues and I’m missing you. I got smoke in my eye, I think I’m gonna die, because I’m missing you, I’ve got the birdshit blues. I slammed my hand in the door, I got called a whore, and I can’t have your loving forever more, I got the… I got the… I got the birdshit blues and I’m missing you. I got smoke in my eye, I think I’m gonna die, because I’m missing you, I’ve got the birdshit blues

Desert song 01:29
She said I should come my hair, and get some better clothes to wear, had she but mocked my tearful eyes, that my sorrowful soul belies. Does the desert dress for the sun, whose wondrous light her face adorns? Does the mountain dress for the dawn, as the nightingale sings her morning song?

Waltz no. 5 01:55
We were dancing together in the worst of weather, we danced a polka, I’d never been happier. Where you lead I did follow, now it’s the break of tomorrow, but then the song ended, we went back to the bar. Drank a toast to the stars that hang in the sky, to the people we’ve known, to the years flown on by. Soon we finished our drinks, and the barmaid called time, we walked home in the snow, tried to walk a straight line. Where you led I did follow, now it’s the break of tomorrow, the band are all sleeping, we may waltz in our dreams.

You know I’ve tried to get through this, you know I’ve tried but I still come close to tears, when I think of everything that could’ve been, when I think of everything that happened. You know it never, never gets easier. You know it never gets easier at all, sometimes we race towards forgetfulness, sometimes we can’t forget at all. You know I’ve tried, yes I’ve tried. You know I’ve tried. How I’ve tried.

“A lullaby to send you to sleep to dream of things like me and daddy. A lullaby to send you to sleep to dream of things like toys and playing. If you want to you can have a bottle of milk and I will cuddle you till your eyes grow heavy and you fall asleep… A lullaby is a little song a mummy sings to her baby. A lullaby is a little tune to send you off to sleep and dream. Lullaby, don’t cry, go to sleep, and rest your eyes x2 A lullaby is a little song a daddy sings to his baby, go to sleep, to sleep, to sleep… etc” “Go to sleep now, sleep now, my darling little one. The day is ending but we had lots of fun. Go to sleep sweetheart. Oh our little bundle of joy, you bring us so much fun, and in return we’ll look after you until you’re big enough to look after us, or at least just yourself… Sleep now our precious one and dream of aeroplanes, flying over the castles of Spain, go to sleep, dream and dream. The sun has fallen over the hill, but don’t worry for he will be back again, tomorrow morn. The stars are shining up in the sky, ever so brightly so you and I can wink back at them. Sleep now my little one and drift off to dream. We have had a lovely day so it would seem, and so it is, the day is done.”

Though I left my heart on some station platform many years in the past, there’s still a lot to be thankful for, good times are coming back. (chorus) Good times are coming, good times are coming, good times are coming back Good times are coming, though they’re not rushing, good times are coming back Got my car and a house to live in, got my lovely wife. Got my family and I’ve got a lovely baby to see me through my life (chorus) You could be forgiven for thinking the world is quite a scary place, but its gonna get better day by day gonna save the human race. (chorus) x2

about

The album is a mixture of electroacoustic improvised arrangements and field-recording style takes of catchy penned songs by Bizzy and Omar, sometimes with cooking in the background or other household noises. On ‘First Words’, Charlotte begins singing along to the one-word chorus, a recognisable “hello”. Other tracks are notable for collaging loops made by Charlotte on the drum with Omar’s piano or Bizzy on the organ. Notably, ‘Good Times (are coming back)’ could be an anthem of optimism that we all want to get behind.
